Helsinki City Run has a new route in 2017! The course has been planned based on the wishes of the runners. The new route is more urban than in previous years but has kept its charm with the beautiful seaside, park and forest views. Open the PDF-link below to get familiar with the beautiful course.

Description of the route:
There are 10 starting groups which start from Mäntymäentie near the Töölö Sportshall and Olympic Stadium. The runners head towards Töölönlahti (Töölö Bay). The course passes several landmarks right in the beginning; the National Opera, the Finlandia Hall and the new Musiikkitalo (Music Centre). You might also catch a glimpse of the Parliamentary House. After reaching Kansalaistori the course dives into “Baana”, a biking road cutting through the city center towards Ruoholahti.

The course goes along the Ruoholahti canal side and its parks which attract lots of spectators to cheer the runners. The first refreshment station is stationed right after the 5 km mark. After going through the tunnel to the other side of Länsiväylä there is an amazing 5 km stretch of beach views of Lapinlahti, Hietaniemi and Merikannontie. First noteworthy uphill will be climbed after the water views followed with a beautiful course passing the resident of the President of Finland followed with the second refreshment station near Seurasaari. 10 Km point is now behind.

Runners continue along the waterside and run below Paciuskatu where another water view opens to Pikkuhuopalahti bay. The route weaves along the bay and continues through parks until Hakamäentie which is crossed by a bridge. Route goes straight until it reaches Haaga where is turns to Central park. The gravel road softens the steps now. About 15 km of the route is now behind.

After reaching the third refreshment station runners are already at the Northest corner of the route. Almost all of the rest of the Central Park course is flat or slight downhill terrain until crossing of the Nordenskiöldinkatu. Last few hundred meters are downhill run until the Telia 5G-areena. Last refreshment station before the Telia 5G-areena is at about 18 km mark. After reaching the goal at Telia 5G-areena there is wide selection of drinks and recovery snacks available.

The route is marked properly at cross roads, and the route will go straight if no marking is provided. Kilometer signage is visible at every kilometer point. Competition officials and the police will oversee the runners and traffic.

All registered runners are obligated to follow all the rules and regulations and instructions given by the organizer. The event organizer is Finnish Athletics (FA), the national athletics federation of Finland. Therefore, also the rules of the International Amateur Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) rules apply.

Runners are divided into starting groups according to target times given while registering for the event. There will be ca. 1,500 runners in each group. The start group number and colour will be printed to the personal bib numbers, and the runner must start with the group given. The organizer has the right to remove a runner if he or she is starting the race in a wrong group. A runner starting in a wrong group cannot be guaranteed either a time nor a result. The organizer keeps the right to define and change the start groups if needed.

Runners can apply to the first start group with the registration. Runners to first start are selected by the race organizer so the fastest runners can compete against runners with the same spacing.
