The largest running event in Finland,\u00a0Helsinki\u00a0City Running Day,\u00a0is now scheduled to take place\u00a0on\u00a0Saturday\u00a0the\u00a03rd\u00a0of\u00a0October\u00a02020\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0Helsinki\u00a0Olympic\u00a0Stadium.\u00a0Helsinki\u00a0City Running Day is postponed from May to the beginning of October due to the\u00a0global\u00a0Covid-19\u00a0pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u2013\u00a0 When searching for the new date, we were following closely the predictions of how long the\u00a0Covid-19\u00a0epidemic\u00a0will last in Finland.\u00a0The health and safety of our community being an utmost priority,\u00a0we wanted\u00a0to take our time to find the best possible date and venue for the Helsinki City Running Day.\u00a0We\u00a0are\u00a0now\u00a0pleased to confirm\u00a0the\u00a0new race date\u00a0and\u00a0announce\u00a0that the legendary,\u00a0freshly\u00a0renewed\u00a0Helsinki Olympic Stadium will be the\u00a0event\u00a0venue\u00a0of\u00a0Helsinki City Running\u00a0Day\u00a0already this\u00a0autumn, says the\u202fRace director of Helsinki City Running Day, Harri\u202fH\u00e4nninen.<\/p>\n
\u2013\u00a0\u00a0We are\u00a0grateful\u00a0for the\u202fCity\u202fof Helsinki, the\u00a0Olympic Stadium and\u202fother\u202fstakeholders\u202ffor cooperating with\u202fus, so\u202fthat we were able to find the new date\u202fregardless of challenges.
\nH\u00e4nninen\u00a0is very pleased\u00a0that the Helsinki City Running Day returns\u00a0to the\u00a0Olympic Stadium earlier than\u00a0it was\u00a0originally planned.<\/p>\n
\u2013\u202fWe had\u00a0already\u00a0agreed that the event will return\u00a0to the\u00a0Olympic Stadium in May 2021.\u00a0However,\u00a0we are\u00a0extremely excited to give our runners the news that they are able\u00a0to\u00a0experience the\u00a0renewed\u00a0Olympic Stadium already this year.\u00a0This is very special as the\u00a0legendary\u00a0Helsinki City\u00a0Marathon\u00a0is celebrating its\u00a040th anniversary this year,\u00a0H\u00e4nninen\u00a0says.<\/p>\n
Helsinki City Running Day consists\u00a0of\u00a0six\u00a0running\u00a0events:\u00a0the\u00a040th\u00a0Garmin\u00a0Helsinki\u00a0City\u00a0Marathon, Helsinki City Run half marathon, ECCO Helsinki City 5, Helsinki City Marathon Relay, Helsinki City Double (half marathon + marathon) and\u00a0children\u2019s\u00a0Minimarathon. \u2013 Stay\u00a0safe\u00a0and\u00a0keep\u00a0on\u00a0running\u00a0if it is\u00a0possible and\u00a0remember\u00a0to\u00a0keep\u00a0your\u00a0social\u00a0distance.\u00a0We\u00a0hope\u00a0to\u00a0see\u00a0you\u00a0in October at\u00a0the\u00a0Helsinki\u00a0Olympic\u00a0Stadium, H\u00e4nninen\u00a0says.<\/p>\n
All registered runners will have their registration automatically entered into the new race date<\/p>\n
All registered runners of the 2020 Helsinki City Running Day events (Helsinki City Run half marathon, Garmin Helsinki City Marathon, ECCO Helsinki City 5, Helsinki City Marathon\u00a0Relay, Helsinki City Double and children\u2019s Minimarathon) will have their registration automatically entered into the new race date.<\/p>\n
The runners who are unable to take part in the postponed race will be given the chance to transfer the registration to next year\u2019s event on May 15th, 2021.\u00a0Also, transferring the registration to another runner to this year\u2019s rescheduled\u00a0event with a 10 EUR transfer fee will still be possible. Registered participants will receive additional information in the upcoming days. The registration for 2020 is now re-opened as well.<\/p>\n
